New to Yoga
Welcome to Yoga
Whether you are stepping onto the mat for the first time or returning after a break, you are welcome here.
Yoga is not simply a fitness activity or a series of stretches. It is a practice that develops awareness, discipline, strength, mobility, and clarity of mind over time.
At Casa Vinyasa, the emphasis is on learning the practice properly, with attention to breath, structure, and the intelligence of the body. Students are guided progressively so that the practice becomes something they understand, embody, and integrate, not something they simply imitate.
You do not need to be flexible, strong, or experienced to begin. What matters is curiosity, patience, and consistency.
What to Expect
Different Class Formats
You may join a Mysore-style practice, where students move through the sequence at their own pace with individual guidance, or a Guided Ashtanga Class, where the teacher briefly explains the postures and guides the group collectively through the sequence. Because the instructions are given to the whole group, there is less individual attention, which can make it more challenging for complete beginners to follow.
Progressive Learning
The practice is taught progressively. Postures are introduced gradually so that students develop the necessary strength, mobility, coordination, and understanding before moving forward.
Attention to Breath and Alignment
The practice emphasizes breathing, alignment, and quality of movement so that the body becomes stable, and free.
Tips for Beginners
Clothing: Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely. There is no need to waste money on expensive leggings or trendy yoga outfits. Loose cotton or linen pants work perfectly well. Very baggy shirts or oversized T-shirts, however, can be inconvenient during practice.
Equipment: You are welcome to use the yoga mats available at the studio. If you already have a yoga mat, it is always preferable to practice on your own. Props are available at the studio.
Food & Hydration: Avoid practicing on a full stomach. Drink water before or after practice, not during class.
Arrival: Doors open 30 minutes before class starts. Please try to arrive at least 10 minutes before the class begins so you can settle in and start calmly.
Start Your Journey
Yoga is not about physical ability or fitness. As the Bhagavad Gītā reminds us, we are entitled to the effort, not to the result. Practice is simply about showing up, doing the work, and allowing understanding to deepen over time.
Like the journey described in the Rāmāyaṇa, the path unfolds step by step, through patience, discipline, and commitment.
Each class is an opportunity to practice, learn, and continue walking the path. You are welcome to join a class and begin building your practice.
